In 1900 Britain had 50000 troops chasing and 2000 Boers.
Trapped with 250 Boers north of the Magaliesberg at Wolhuterskop de Wet learnt
from a local African how baboons crossed the mountain. All Boers & horses escaped.
BBC -TV tried to film for a documentary in 1998 using the best horsemen available . They failed.
Let Prof Fransjohan Pretorius tell the story.
His father showed him the route as a child .This built his interest to study and become South Africa’s leading Boer war historian.
Could you do the de Wet crossing? Prof Pretorius is prepared to take you at a later date.
